Top 10 Best Shounen Anime Series to Watch in 2019

We all do love Shounen anime, right? At least most of us do. Most of the anime fans love to watch shounen anime. And if you want to watch or simply just know shounen anime series, this list is for you. But let me be clear first. There are dozens of other unorthodox shounen anime.

10. Yu Yu Hakusho

Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the most underrated anime series out there. If you are a shounen anime fan, you should know this classic shounen. Yu Yu Hakusho is also known as Ghost Files. The anime series at the time it aired got so popular in Japan that it has beaten DBZ in TRP rating.

9. Death Note

There is no anime fan who doesn’t know about Death Note is there? But you may think, why the hell is Death Note on this list? And the answer is, why the hell not? If you don’t already know, let me say this, Death Note is a Shounen anime.

Death Note is usually considered as a great gateway to the anime universe. If you are an anime fan, you should watch Death Note. And when you watch Death Note, do a favor. Do not watch Netflix’s live action version of it.

8. Code Geass

Code Geass is also a shounen anime, an unorthodox one. After you have watched Death Note anime do watch this one. Code Geass is a 2 season action, shounen, and mecha anime. Though mecha anime is not everyone’s cup of tea. At the beginning of the show, you might be thinking is it really worth your time? But I can assure you that, it is worth every second.

Though, I liked the show from the very 1st episode, and hope it does the same to you.

7. Great Teacher Onizuka

Onizuka is highly underrated as an anime. This 43 episode long Shounen anime has slice of life and comedy element in it too. The main character of our show was a former biker gang member. In fact he was the leader of the gang. In the very first episode, Onizuka intends to join a school as a teacher. He joins the school, and the story progresses.

The series deals with many of the problems of the students. Actually our main character Onizuka deals with all these problems.

6. One Piece

One of the big shounen anime is still running. The anime as well as the manga is still publishing to this day. Oda sensei still has no intention of finishing this epic journey anytime soon. Because of the everlasting popularity in the Japan, One Piece is still the all-time best selling manga.

5. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden is also a widely popular name in the anime community. Anime fans all over the world know this anime very well. The show tells us story about a gutsy ninja who changes the village after becoming the village leader. Our main character Naruto not only changed the village he also changed the whole ninja system.

The anime is probably the most popular around the world. The main attraction of the show is the character development.

4. Assassination Classroom

Assassination Classroom is another shounen anime. And yes, it’s an underrated one. This 2 season-long series is produced by Lerche studio and licensed by Funimation. The first season was 22 episodes long and the 2nd season of it was 25 episodes long. The main character Nagisa might seem a bit confusing at first, but trust me he is a boy.

3. Gintama

Though Gintama is mainly known as a comedy anime, it is a full-fledged shounen show. At the very beginning of the show, there are only episodes consisting of continuous comedy and parody. But trust me, later it gets really intense. When the story progresses to the point, it really becomes what a very good shounen anime should offer. So, watch it till then, the silver demon won’t disappoint you.  

2. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is considered the best anime series ever by many of the anime fans. And why not? The animation, artwork, osts, opening and ending song, story, and plot everything is topnotch. The journey of the Elric brother is bound to impress you. The way the both brother starts their journey by burning their house down, the way they encounter their hardship and overcome it- it is really astonishing thing to watch. And the ending was soothing as well.

1. Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Hunter x Hunter is animated two times by two different studios. The first one was produced by Nippon Animation in 1999. The 2nd one is produced by Madhouse. And they did an outstanding job making this epic Manga a great masterpiece of an anime. The show starts with a simple jolly and common shounen environment as our main protagonists enter the tournament arc.

However, if you think that the show is going to stay in that jolly vibe, you are going to get surprised.
