Hey there Animeheads, this will be a special type of article. From the title, you can see what we are going to talk about. Yes, we will pay a tribute to Kyoto Animation Co. Ltd. Also known as KyoAni. As we all know KyoAni faced an arson attack on 18 July 2019. As this is a condolence article for KyoAni, we tried not to monetize this article by any ads. We can’t possibly earn money from a tragic death incident. So today we will discuss the history of KyoAni and about the Arson attack.
The Headquarter of KyoAni is situated in Uji, Kyoto prefecture. The first studio is in Fushimi, Kyoto. And the second studio is also in Uji, Kyoto beside the headquarter. The president of KyoAni is Hideaki Hatta and the vice president is Yoko Hatta. KyoAni is affiliated with Animation Do Co. Ltd. KyoAni has produced many hit animations such as Clannad, Clannad: After Story, Koe no Katachi(The Silent Voice), Hyouka, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, Violet Evergarden, Nichijou,Kobayashi-san’s Dragon Maid, Lucky Star, Free!, K-On, Kyoukai no Kanata, etc.
History of KyoAni
KyoAni was founded in 1981 and established in 1985. Yoko Hatta and Hideaki Hatta are the founders of KyoAni. Yoko Hatta was employed at Mushi Productions. After she became independent she moved to Kyoto she married Hideaki Hatta. This couple then founded Kyoto Animations. In its early history, it produced animations like Kiddy Grade, Inuyasha, Techni Universe, Nurse with Komugi and so on.
The Tragic Arson Attack
The devastating fire started at 10.30 am(1.30 UTC) at Studio 1 of KyoAni. The arsonist doused the area with gasoline and put up the fire. He is reported to have been shouting “Die!” while he was with his arson attack.
Witness also stated they heard him accusing the studio of plagiarism.
The fire has been extinguished at 3:19 pm(6:19 UTC). The Police has caught the arsonist, Shinji Aoba a 41-year man, in about 100 meters from the building. 35 people were killed and 34 were severely injured. The president of Kyoto Animations, Hideaki Hatta, requested not to release the name of the dead.
The loss of KyoAni is unrecoverable. Still, Many donors have donated to KyoAni to reduce their financial problems. After July 31, 2019, as many as 56,835
donors have raised approximately 1,166,540,000 yen for KyoAni. Crowdfunding organized by Sentai Filmworks raised 255 million yen, Yahoo! and Japan Animation Creators Association donated 33 million yen, T Point Japan associated 11 million yen. However, the attorney of the company stated that the recovery expenses is estimated up to 10 billion yen. Still president Hideaki Hatta assured KyoAni will not give up without a fight.
